About a week ago I bought a new phone. And I wrote a post on it. Then WordPress ate the post and I was sad. Also angry. But at least now I know not to write any more posts on my phone. Cool for me.
My life isn’t interesting enough to do a two week recap and if you saw my tweet about the birds in my chimney, my flooded basement, and the dogs nonstop peeing in the house, you’re basically caught up. I probably don’t even need to finish this post but I have some time to spare so why not.
Reading. Finishing up The Breakdown and heading into 13 Minutes. Got a ton of books from NetGalley including the new BA Paris and Caroline Kepnes books (her newest is not about Joe which gives me all the sads but he’s apparently reappearing next year), purchased Crimes in Southern Indiana and A Wrinkle in Time. Thanks to everyone who joined Show Us Your Books this month and remember that the next one is 3/13.
Watching. Last weekend I watched The Florida Project. I don’t really know how to accurately describe it but it was incredible. The kids in the movie, particularly the main character, have more talent than most adults. The subject and plot are unsettling (kids living in poverty in the shadow of Disney World) but it was worth every single minute.
Listening. A lot of 90s music and movie soundtracks. It’s been nice to shake things up. Still looking for some podcasts, though.
Thinking. About the families, friends, and community of Parkland. My heart is broken, my brain is fired up and full of rage, and my soul is crushed that continued murder of children remains a polarizing and divisive issue. One school shooting is too many; where we are now is unfathomable. This is no longer a 2nd amendment issue and it’s no longer a mental health issue. It’s a moral issue and our entire government is corrupt. Filling their coffers means more than human lives, and the lives of children at that. When churches, schools, movie theaters, concerts, and really anywhere public have become dangerous, we have an epidemic. We have a societal crisis. I am sickened at the lack of action and the continued bowing to the NRA. It shows, truly, where our politicians loyalties lie. And while I want to address how commonplace school and other mass shootings have become to the point that they’re only passing headlines in the news (some don’t even register at all), I can’t help but mention that OMG can we please stop focusing on the shooters? I truly, truly don’t give a fuck about them and I don’t want to remember their names. Let’s keep the stories focused on what matters: the victims, the communities, and how we can help them heal. Let’s focus on what action we can take to remove all the assholes who refuse to value life over money. Let’s focus on making sure every child feels safe, and IS SAFE, at school.
Laughing. So, I know this is kind of old but I just found it and you can read all of the tweets here.
Hope y’all have a great weekend! We’ll be heading into Philly for a cheerleading competition so that should be something. See you on Tuesday!

The feeling of helplessness is strong with Parkland coming so soon after too many other school shootings – at what point will the public’s outrage have an effect on Congress?
Clicked on the tweet link and the dog one made me go see who’s cutting onions this early in the morning … or my allergies are acting up … or whatever.
Have a good weekend!

I can’t even comment on the shootings. Just. can’t. I tried watching the Florida project. I feel like I missed something because I could not finish the movie. It’s funny because my friend felt like that with the shape of water and yet I loved that movie. I think we all have those filters we see things through. To me the movie was super boring. lol

I cant listen to podcasts anymore at work – or at least havent figured out a way to bring it to work with me & I’m super sad about that.
That spider meme – butt rope – I’ll never look at a spider the same.

I don’t get why people aka trumpers are against gun control, banning assault weapons, background checks. Won’t they pass a background check. Why do they need assault weapons. I lost it yesterday coming home from my dad’s house watching kids get off the bus. We have 4 grandchildren. All about greed. All about greed. God help and heal all. Enjoy your weekend ❣️ Love , Steph’s Momma

I am number 7 on the wait list for The Breakdown at the library, come on!! And I got the new one from Netgalley too 🙂 The Florida Project is getting added to my list of things to watch. I had to laugh so hard at the spider and raccoon tweets. Those are hilarious!
I completely agree with you on the school shootings. It is getting out of hand and I really care less to hear about the shooter and his picture and all of that. It just gives that person attention. I only care about the victims.

I remember Columbine like it was yesterday and it shocks me that we’ve been living with school shootings for nearly 20 years. And after Sandy Hooks, when kindergartners were massacred, I thought now they will do something because those were babies!! Still, they did nothing. It’s mind-boggling the power the NRA has over the GOP. And it’s amazing the family-values, God-touting party is so spineless and full of hypocrisy. Since they should know their bible well, I hope they enjoy their lives now because Hell is really going to suck. I also heard it’s for an eternity.
I’ve heard great things about Florida Project but haven’t seen it yet. Okay, now I have to go back and read that twitter thread because it’s hilarious and we all need a good laugh these days. Seriously, butt rope might be the best thing I’ve ever heard in regards to spiders. Have a great weekend!

Do you listen to Ira Madison’s “Keep It?” It’s a new one I just started and I like it so far. It’s pop culture and politics sprinkled in.

Can’t talk about the shooting; you know my stance/feelings on it.
The Florida Project is being watched tonight — I just saw it On Demand and was SO EXCITED.
Those tweets are hilarious and spot ON.

I just got A Wrinkle in Time from the library today! I’m excited to read it before the movie comes out. Your post reminds me that I really need to see The Florida Project too!

I don’t even know how to assess my feelings with the most recent school shooting. I just can’t believe how little we value the safety and rights of children getting an education. Guns are not more important than ANY of that.
The tweets about animal creation are hilarious! Hope you enjoy A Wrinkle in Time. Admittedly, I didn’t. I’m in the minority, though. The Florida Project sounds like something I want to look into.

I don’t even know what to say anymore about the shootings… it seems like a no-brainer for me to just take away the guns, but we’ve been talking about this issue for so many years…. I just don’t know how the US will fix itself. These problems only exist here.

Regarding school shootings, I still can’t believe many of these barely even register as news. That’s insane. It’s also disgusting, especially when I think about some of the things that ARE considered worthy of a news segment. It’s scary and it’s heartbreaking.
I’m curious about the new Caroline Kepnes book. I didn’t love Hidden Bodies the way I loved You, so maybe I need a Joe-free book this time around. I also think I need to watch The Florida Project.
I love 90s music! I go through periods where I just want to listen to the music I loved in middle school/high school (I guess most of high school was technically in the early 2000s for me, but whatever). I get especially nostalgic in August around my birthday.
Those tweets cracked me up! When I read “give it a butt rope” I thought I was going to die. Haha.
