This week in adulting…dealing with bills. Specifically my county who makes absolutely no sense in the way they issue the sewer bill and then having to choose between magically conjuring up an impossibly obscene amount of money in a very short time or getting screwed 8 ways till Sunday if we opt for a payment plan. Awesome.
This week in TV…I missed the premiere of Better Call Saul. Did anyone watch it? Was it as good as I’m hoping it is?
This week in reading…I finished All the Bright Places. I read it in about 5 hours and a few days later, I’m still not over the last 100 pages. That book wrecked me. Wrecked. Me. I’ll give a full review in next month’s Show Us Your Books linkup (March 10 so mark your calendars) but suffice it to say, I think you should read it.
This week in cooking…I made a loaded baked potato chicken casserole. So delicious and easy. Here’s what you do: layer diced chicken, potatoes, about 1 cup of cheddar cheese, and bacon in a casserole dish. Green onions optional. Season with salt and pepper. Bake at 450 for 45 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and potatoes are soft. We had it with the steam in a bag broccoli, cauliflower, and carrot medley but you can have it with whatever you want.
This week in binge eating…I’m pretty confident I could subsist on red velvet Oreos and wasabi and soy almonds. Let’s just say I bought the Oreos on Monday and ate a shameful amount of them on the 10 minute ride home from the supermarket. Yep. I couldn’t even make it home before I opened them. Perhaps this is why I need to lose weight.
This week in things I don’t care about…Fifty Shades of Grey. Can everything relating to this wretched book series go the fuck away? I’m 100% confident that the movie is a steaming pile of shit as well that can’t get any worse unless Kanye West did the soundtrack because he’s a disrespectful asshole who needs to shut his trap. There is no way I will see it unless you pay me a large sum of money, have Matt Damon, Chris Pratt, and John Krasinski as my dates, and then shower me in diamonds and first edition books. And maybe not even then.
This week in 40 by 40 list update…I made plans to go to the Cherry Blossom festival this year and figured out how to pay off all of our credit card debt (admittedly, it’s not much but it’s enough that it bothers me) by June. Maybe earlier. One step closer to debt free, which is a list item. I also tried to get Jimmy Fallon tickets but by the time I got to my computer, all the March tickets had been claimed. Sonofabitch!
This week in shit that’s so awesome I can’t stand it…The Breakfast Club turns 30 this year. This is one of my all-time favorite movies and, old as I am, I was still a bit too young to see it in theaters the first time around. Not this time, though. My ass will be in one of those seats. If you want to see it, here’s a listing of all theaters in the country that will be showing it. And you can buy your tickets today. Like I am.
That’s all she wrote this week. I’ll see you guys back here on Monday or Tuesday. If you celebrate it, have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

That casserole sounds great. I love stuff like that. Just on our local station that those Oreos are hard to find. That’s a good thing for me. I could house a sleeve of them with milk, I am
Sure. Have a great weekend! Love, SMD’s Momma
Jana says
That makes me sad that they’re hard to find but also not surprising because they are delicious.

All The Bright Places is getting moved up to the first read in my to read list. Please tell me how you really feel about 50 Shades! Hehe! I feel old that the Breakfast Club is 30! Holy Cow where has the time gone.

I know! I can’t believe it’s 30, either! And please read it as soon as you can. Such a great book.

The only thing 50SOG that I’ve partaken of has been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify. Honestly, it’s not soooo bad, but it starts to get creepy after a while.. or if you’re me and you’re in the middle of working and all of sudden you start listening to the lyrics saying something about “you’re mine.” I hated myself for enjoying it a little.
confession: I’ve not partaken of these red velvet oreos because I’m not a huge red velvet fan. Someone actually brought red velvet cake in to work since it was her birthday and I had a sliver and then was done. Chocolate things just need to be chocolate. No white chocolate, no red velvet. No pretenses. It doesn’t help that I don’t like chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream.

I will not listen to the soundtrack. I hate-read all 3 books and that was enough.
To be honest, I’m not a huge red velvet fan either but the cream cheese filling is amazing. AMAZING.

i was also too young to see breakfast club in the theaters but i remember when it was out and i used to always walk by the posters and thinking: what exactly is a breakfast club? little did i know it was one of the awesomest movies ever.

Hahaha! I remember seeing the posters and thinking how old they seemed. Ah, to be 7/8 again. I want to hug whoever decided to do this because it’s really one of the greatest movies of all time and still so relatable. I could talk about it for hours.

I will be soooo sooo glad when 50 Shades of Gray is open and over, I’s so sick of hearing about it.
Yayyy for The Breakfast Club, one of my all time favorite movies.

I can’t wait for it all to go away and anyone who enjoys it…well, to each her own but I definitely judge them a bit. Fine. A lot.
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
I am TOTALLY seeing The Breakfast Club in the theater. That will go on my Birthday Month list.
I also read all three 50 Shades because it was easy to and I like to know what the talk is about. My friend wants me to go see the movie with her, I’m not really into it.

I hate-read the whole series for that exact reason. I kept loathing it more as each book went on. I wish I could take it back. The reading. Not the hating.
Julia says
I have zero interest in reading the 50 Shades books and won’t be seeing the movie, and I am SO SICK of hearing about it! I just don’t get the mass hysteria about it. Will be so glad when it dies down!
Oh my gosh the Breakfast Club is 30 years old?? I feel so old now.
Happy weekend to you!

I don’t get the mass hysteria either. They were the worst books I have ever read. EVER. Apparently the cast doesn’t even like being associated with the movie. The things people will do for fame and money…
Nadine says
So like, Chris and I finished off our RV Oreos last night. We literally ate them every night after dinner. That is why I can’t keep that shit in the house. I give zero fucks about Fifty Shades. I heard the book was just awfully written so I never read it and care even less about seeing it. I am so sick of hearing about it.
Your casserole sounds delicious! I freaking love The Breakfast Club!!!!! Have a great weekend!

Scott left one–ONE–in the box because I guess he didn’t want to seem like the pig who ate the last one. I did with no shame at all. And it was delicious.
The casserole was so yummy even the child loved it.

I love the ‘first edition books’ yes that is the only way i would read or watch that trash lol. i want a signed first edition of P&P for free, so good luck with that lol.
meanwhile, i have seen All The Bright Places a bunch but didn’t add it to my list because the synopsis says he is obsessed with death and I am the opposite and it sounds like it would freak me out and give me nightmares because anything that makes me think about death gives me nightmares, like this stupid comment is going to give me nightmares, but if you think i should read it, i will.

I have issues with death, too, and yes, he’s obsessed with it but within the context of the story, it makes sense. It’s not just a random obsession for the sake of it. The book is so much more than that but if you have trouble with death, you might not want to read it.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, I love Oreos! They are best fresh, so go on with your bad self. And yay for making a trip down to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Hope they are bloomin’ and you get to do some fun stuff!

I hope they’re in bloom, too! Fortunately we’re not too far away so if it doesn’t pan out with them blooming when we’re there this year, we’ll have to try again.
I’m not a huge Oreos fan but these did me in.

LOL love the Kanye and the 50 shades comment! No doubt! I saw TBC at an outdoor theater two summers ago. It was awesome…and everyone knew every line. John Bender is the best character!

Saw the first ep of Better Call Saul, not the second one yet. Hopefully in a few hours. It was good. I liked it. A different feel to Breaking Bad, but what I was expecting. In a good way. I think it’s gonna be good. But then I’ve been saying that since the inception!

Seriously. I JUST opened a care package from my mom with four packages of red velvet oreos!!!! They aren’t something I can get in Australia, and she knew I needed them in my life.
I’m right there with you about 50 Shades of Grey. There is nothing about that Christian Grey guy that stimulates me or interests me. I read about 8/10 of the book and couldn’t finish it. I just did NOT care what happened.
