This week in weather…holy shit, winter please go away. I’m done with you and your snow and your cold as fuck temperatures and your snow days and your general unpleasantness. Enough already.
This week in reading…after much debate with myself and input from Instagram, I opted to start The Girl on the Train over The Martian. You know those months where almost every book you read is amazing and you can’t decide which one is your favorite? That has been the past month for me. More information on that coming in Tuesday’s Show Us Your Books linkup (can you believe it’s time for that already?)
This week in cooking…I love, LOVE peanut butter and I love foods that have peanut butter as a base. Cookies, sauces, and my personal favorite, peanut butter soup. I made it this week for dinner and whenever I do, I’m reminded how easy it is (and inexpensive, too) and kick myself for not making it more often. If you guys want the recipe, let me know and I’ll do a post.
This week in TV…I forgot The Following started this week. I’ll be catching up on it over the weekend, time permitting, along with the premiere of American Crime and the most recent episodes of Justified and Better Call Saul. My husband has been binge watching House of Lies with Don Cheadle. I’m not a huge fan of it. But I was a huge fan of both movies we watched last weekend, The Judge and Whiplash. Guys, seriously, see both of them. Whiplash is INTENSE and The Judge is just a great movie.
This week in creativity…For Christmas, my in-laws gave me a book of writing prompts, 642 Things to Write About. I’ve been going through, writing stories in my head, but not actually writing them down. So I started a little pet project blog with my responses to the prompts. You’re supposed to hand write them but I’m too wordy and run out of room and plus, I can’t lose a blog but I can lose a book so I started a site. When I have a few entries, and if you guys are interested, I’ll share the link.
This week in getting healthy…Remember I shared a few weeks ago that some test results showed my vitamin D levels are low? Well, I’ve been taking supplements and wow, do they make a difference! I’m sleeping better, have energy to get off the couch and do things like exercise (T-25 Beta cycle), and my depression seems to be at bay. I haven’t felt this good in a long time.
This week in wanting to scream in someone’s face…There’s a blogger I semi-follow and I read a post she wrote a day or so ago, a “getting to know me” post and in that, she said that she is put up on a pedestal. Um, full of yourself much? Yes, you’re a popular blogger and all but a pedestal? Really? I hope she meant something more along the lines of “put on display” and it was just poor wording in the post because if it wasn’t, and she really thinks people put her on a pedestal, I don’t think I can follow her anymore. (Actually, upon rereading it, most of the post was a humblebrag, including her pouty face in the makeup room of The Dr. Oz Show. If you’re that pouty to be on TV, stay home. No one held a gun to your head and forced you to do it).
This week in 40 by 40 progress…One of the items on my list is to volunteer somewhere meaningful to me. I’ve been researching and trying to pick and I finally decided that I’m going to apply to be a CASA (court appointed special advocate). Child welfare is an issue that’s very close to my heart, and this is a perfect fit. It’s an intense commitment but one I’m very excited for.
Have a great weekend! I’ll be cramming all my errands and chores into Saturday because of a competition on Sunday. Hope you get to do something a little more fun than that. See you back here on Monday!

that blogger hahahahahaha! (now i’m curious). bloggers have an over-inflated sense of self which is why we blog, no? kidding 😀
i also have girl on the train and the martian on hold but since my library has its head up its ass, i won’t be able to read it until 2026.

It took me less time to get The Martian as an actual book than an eBook. Yes, I put them on hold both ways. I’ve had The Martian for 2 weeks and still haven’t gotten the notification for the eBook (I let my husband read it while I was reading a couple of others).

whiplash absolutely floored me. it was so amazing. and then the big sort of twist at the end? the stuff nightmares are made of. kinda scared of JK Simmons forever after that.

I’ve been kind of scared of JK Simmons since OZ. The ending was AMAZING. The whole movie was phenomenal and I don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about how good Miles Teller was in it.
Karen says
I haven’t seen whiplash yet but it is on my list. I also want to see The Theory Of Everything (I think that’s the title), the movie about Stephen Hawking. It’s sad how many movies I have yet to see. My daughter is still sick so I’m thinking this will be a pretty boring weekend. I’m pretty sure she has the flu now : ( I hope you have a great weekend!

The Theory of Everything is on my list, too, but it’s not available via Redbox yet and I’m too cheap to pay for any more On Demand movies.
Hope your daughter feels better! Kid flu is the worst.

I may not make peanut butter soup, but I need to know what’s in it and how it’s made. If you don’t post the recipe, please just tell me. LOL
I also want to know who that blogger is.
Were you involved in CASA when we were in college? Or was that Jody or no one?
SMD @ Life According to Steph recently posted…Things that happened this week

I don’t think any of us were involved with CASA but Jody and I were both sociology majors and I interned with juvenile probation so maybe you’re remembering that?
I’ll send you the link.

Very enjoyable post. Nice on the vitamin D helping you! Doctors need to pay more attention to vitamin levels. Very important. I love the book of writing prompts and agree on no hand writing. I cannot understand my own writing many times. There are many braggers on facebook, too, who post suggestive pictures & then act like they are horrified if someone comments back in that mode. Goddess speed in your quest to become a CASA. Sounds rewarding, but very heart wrenching. Happy weekend! Love, SMD’s Momma

I’m excited to give CASA a try. I worked in the child welfare area for years so it’ll feel good to do it from this side of things.

The Girl on The Train is ready for pick up at my library tonight, since it’s a 14 day check I’ll have to put it ahead of The Rosie Project which I picked up Wednesday. I’m excited for The Girl on The Train!

It was a great book. I finished it in a few hours because I couldn’t put it down. Now I’m moving on to The Martian!
Julia @ Grace Makes New says
Yay for better Vitamin D levels and feeling better! I’ve been taking Vitamin D for a while too since my doctor found I was deficient a few years ago. Ugh humble bragging, I loathe it, and I’m always paranoid I will do it without realizing it! That is SO very awesome that you are volunteering as a CASA!

that is super weird about that blogger… i dislike ridiculous humble braggers!

It’s crazy how Vitamin D makes that big of difference. I also suspect baseball being back has something to do with feeling better. You know since our depression appears to ride the same coaster 😉
I was going to suggest you try the volunteering route before seeking employment (unless you really need to) and see if that fills the void for you. CASA is a great organization.
…and now i’m googling blogger on the Dr. Oz Show because i’m nosy that way.

I recently started taking supplements for Vitamin D as well after blood tests showed deficiency. It’s only been a couple of weeks. I can’t tell much of a difference yet, but you’ve got me feeling positive.
CASA is a great organization. Good luck with that!

I am so glad the Following is back, I missed it. Give me Peanut Butter anything and I am a happy girl. Glad the Vitamin D is making you sleep and feel better! That sounds like a great organization to be a part of and I am sure makes a huge impact.

Your volunteering choice sounds exciting!!! That is why I picked the humane society, it has to be an issue that you are passionate about 🙂
I have been seeing a lot of people full of themselves lately. It is pretty sickening. When did everyone grow such a big head? And isn’t amazing how much some Vitamin D can help you? I have been on a supplement for over year now and it makes all the difference! Have a great weekend!

I watched The Judge last week and though it was kind of OK. From the story it had too much going on and some plot holes, but I did enjoy the performances by RDJ and Robert Duvall. Whiplash is high on my list of movies to see, but Big Hero 6 is in my Redbox queue tonight! Vitamin D is one of the things our trainer recommended for this body transformation challenge I’ve been doing. She says that even we here in southern california are not getting enough of it even though it’s sunny and we are out in it more. Crazy! Glad it’s helping!

I’m 2-3 seasons behind on Justified and I haven’t watched the finale of Downton yet. I’m also 2 weeks behind on TWD…
But I’m all caught up on Saul and I did watch the premiere of The Following. I liked it well enough. I DVRd American Crime.
I need a calendar just for t.v.
I’d be interested in the pb soup!
They have “happy lights” in Alaska that you’re supposed to sit in front for for 15 minutes a day in the winter so you can get your vitamin D. I never tried it (perhaps I should have).

Hey, The Martian! That’s going to be our April book club selection! Can’t wait to discuss it with you! And yes, share that PB soup! Oh my gosh I love PB too!!! Though my kids don’t like it. I have that 642 journal too! Would love to know your link. Yay for the vitamin D supplements boosting your energy.

My dad was a CASA when I was a teenager. He loved it, but it was hard. I’m so excited for you to dive into something like that. The world needs more good people! The Girl On The Train is next on my list! I finally just bought it because I didn’t want to wait for 50 more people to get through it at the library. Whiplash was so, so good. I’m pretty sure it was my favorite movie last year. Ew, that blogger makes me mad. I’ve unfollowed a ton of big bloggers lately. They don’t connect anymore, they just look at their readers as a fan base. That’s not what I want my blogging relationships to be about.

Plus – I NEED a peanut butter soup recipe.
