This week in reading…Finished Laura Vanderkam’s I Know How She Does It, halfway through I Regret Nothing, picked up Confess, and started Love May Fail. Pinch hitting for two of my original Literary Ladies books are I Regret Nothing (for Modern Romance in memoir/book written by a celebrity) and Remember Mia (for Radiant Angel in suspense/mystery/thriller). Show Us Your Books is this Tuesday, August 11! Best day of the month, amirite?
This week in book to movie news…Elle Fanning is playing Violet in the adaptation of All the Bright Places and Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Rosie in the adaptation of The Rosie Project. I’m okay with the first one but honestly, can we please stop putting Jennifer Lawrence in every single thing? I’m sort of getting sick of seeing her face in all the movies.
This week in things that bother me…people who don’t shut the fuck up in movie theaters. Or turn off their phones. People who blindly believe everything they’re told without bothering to do any sort of investigating on their own. Inappropriate oversharing all over social media. Asking a question on aforementioned social media and someone liking the question instead of actually responding (seriously, why? Are you happy for me about my ignorance? Is it a good question? Did you do it by mistake? Someone please explain because I genuinely don’t get it). Donald Trump’s existence.
This week in things my husband says…Me: Hey, the second movie in the Divergent series is On Demand. We should watch it. It’s called Insurgent. Him: And the third one is called Detergent: Let’s Clean This Shit Up.
This week in things my husband says, part deux…Me: I have Goldfish in my purse. Weird. (Note: this is weird because they were cheese Goldfish and the child hates those). Him: I have SPAM in my desk. Me: No you don’t. Him: Yes, I do. Pat gave me his SPAM swag from the conference. I use it as a threat.
This week in things that are awesome…I haven’t seen much good news to spread around but in things that are good news to me, the Mets have regained first place. I know it’s most likely temporary but I’ll take it.
This week in internet reads…Mindy Kaling’s piece in The New Yorker, a commentary about recent TV show tropes. For my travel loving yet budget minded friends, Buzzfeed assembled a list of 13 affordable countries to travel to. All You magazine has a list of 27 essentials you should always have in your car (very practical, actually). Mashable’s post on this guy, a real life Lazlo Hollyfeld (and if you get that reference, we’re BFFs now). And finally, if you didn’t already know, reading is the best hobby ever and Bustle came up with 11 reasons why (although there are probably a dozen more).

My car has about half the list. I need to prepare it better. Definitely a project for the next month or so, before the colder weather starts to set in.
Same page on the things that bother you. People, read the article, not just the headline! And then go see if you can find another article that says the same thing, or better yet the source material. Of course, the statement could extend to a lot of things, but I mostly see it and get annoyed by people blindly believing things when it’s an attention-grabby headline or tweet or something but no one bothers to take 30 seconds to get some supporting knowledge. Sigh. Happy Friday anyway.

YES! Learn things, don’t blindly follow what a clickbait headline tells you. And if it seems off, investigate. Follow Jon Stewart’s advice from last night. Understand that everything is covered in some sort of bullshit.

OMG I was JUST telling my friend how much it annoyed me when you post a question to Facebook and all people do is like it. And I’ve posted questions only to local folks and have the most random fucking people liking it from different states. I don’t get it!!! Another thing that drives me crazy is when I text my friends…specific friends for something like a movie or volleyball which implies that without their participation, I can’t do it, and they reply back, “can’t make it, have fun!” Have fun? HAVE FUN! How can I have fun if I’m not doing it?? Drives. Me. Crazy! That detergent comment is hilarious. Re JLaw, I don’t mind it so much because I don’t read half the books you do so I’m not too picky about casting, and I do kind of have a girl crush on her. lol!

Oh, JLaw. I like her a lot, but she’s everywhere lately. Also, Rosie wasn’t American, right? Just get someone Australian, like Abbie Cornish or Isla Fisher. I’m on board with Elle in Bright Places too! LOL at Detergent!! We have a few (non-chain) movie theaters who don’t tolerate phones at all! If they see the light of it, they kick you out. I like it a lot!

I am excited to see All The Bright Places on screen. I am so over JLaw too. I was so confused with True Detective. I liked all the actors but so couldn’t understand the plot.

No one can understand the plot because it makes no damn sense. I watched every single episode and have no clue what I watched.
I only watched one episode of True Detective. I recorded the others. Haven’t felt the urge to watch them. What are the chances that’s gonna happen?
We watched American Hustle this weekend. The acting was phenomenal (except Bradley Cooper…I didn’t think he was all that fantastic as I’d heard). My husband was calling JLaw a “dirty mole” (such an Aussie thing to say), but I admit it was because she was playing the character so well. That doesn’t change the fact that I do not want The Rosie Project movie. Nope. I want it to stay the lovely book that I read and keep it at that.
