This week in reading…Finished Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac and Shotgun Lovesongs. Started A Little Life. Picked up Inside the O’Briens and two books from NetGalley including Girl Waits with Gun, which I’m excited to read. I’m 3 shy of completing the Literary Ladies Summer Reading Challenge and the next Show Us Your Books is August 11th so mark your calendars and start drafting your posts!
This week in fashion…well, sort of. It more should be “this week in new clothes because everything I own sucks” but I bought 4 maxi skirts so now I’m mildly trendy even if I trip over the bottom of the skirts repeatedly because #short
This week in TV…Thankfully “Last Comic Standing” and Denis Leary’s new show are great because “True Detective” fucking sucks and “Hell on Wheels”, well, I don’t know what they’re doing there. And it’s going to be forever before all the Netflix shows I like come back on so for now, it’ll continue to be minimal TV for me. Speaking of Netflix, anyone have an ETA for “Longmire”? The internet is not helpful.
This week in controversy…“Trophy” t-shirts. Diner owners who yell at children. More crap about the Duggars. Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj fighting on Twitter and Katy Perry jumping in. Can we seriously stop caring about this stuff and spending so much energy on it? Please. It’s utter nonsense and the fact that we’re more wrapped up in crap like this instead of worrying about important things, real things like what happened to Sandra Bland or how we can get Donald Trump to shut the fuck up and go away, makes me sad for our country.
This week in things that are awesome…I had a whole list of things to share but then this came across my screen and it is better than everything else I’m going to let it stand on its own. Facebook doesn’t always suck and it saved the lives of these two dogs.
This week in internet reading…This oldie but goodie from Mental Floss, 7 Book Dedications that Basically Say “Screw You”. Science confirms that cursing is good for the soul (I fucking knew it!). Being busy is not something to be proud of and this post gives 21 great reasons why. And this post and the hashtag #IWishMyTeacherKnew is heartbreaking and makes you think about what’s really going on with the kids you know.
Have a great weekend! I’m not sure what I’m doing yet because it’s the first weekend of the husband’s summer vacation and we’ve planned nothing! Speaking of his vacation, posting will be erractic, if at all, next week because #poorplanning so if I don’t see you next week, I’ll see you in August!
P.S. You can always follow along with my terrible pictures on Instagram if you’re curious to know what we decide to do.

Lovely post. I am 5’2″ and have not ventured into the maxi skirt yet! Lol on the cursing. I knew it, too. I f-bombed up and down the NJ turnpike taking Sean to his practices! It’s better than raging at people on the road. Enjoy your vacation week with your family.
Love, Steph’s Momma

I’m short but I also like to be comfortable and I don’t wear shorts so maxi skirts it is! I just fold over the waistband to help with the length issue. Little more bulk in the middle but little less tripping on the sidewalk.
SMD @ Life According to Steph says
I had to buy new pixie pants this week. I love them and I wear the crap out of them but the pockets get holes in them. That’s what you get for $34 pants I guess? LOL
I liked the skirt you had on for lunch. I can never find maxis that I really like. I own two and one is tie dye so not super good for work. hahhaa

I have a tie dye one, too, but I work from home and I’m pretty sure my dogs don’t give a shit what I look like. I’d love a colorful tie dye one. That’d be fun.
Lindsay says
What in the fuck are pixie pants, I have never heard such a thing. Capris? Lol
S’ok Jana, in taller than you and still manage to trip on my maxi’s. Lol Then again I’m clumsy and injury prone. Lol

I marked the 11th in my new planner, first blog thing scheduled!
Yayyy for maxi skirts, how you wear no pants in public and get away with it.
I know Trump is annoying but I’m seriously entertained by his shit show. The fact that he’s number one in the GOP poles is a little funny too.
Those duck mom cartoons are the best, they all make me giggle.

YAY for scheduling things!!! I’m trying to get better about my Show Us Your Books posts by writing reviews as I finish the books but I’m still sucking in that capacity. Maybe one day.
I’m short so maxi skirts are an issue but it’s basically like wearing no pants so it’s worth the struggle.

I gave up on True Detective this season. For me it was boring and Vince Vaughn has just been meh. Enjoy your husband’s vacation time! Hope you get to do some fun things!

It’s just awful, plain and simple. The writing, the acting, everything. It makes me sad because the cast has so much potential and it’s just an abomination to watch.
Kristin says
The Rihanna thing: ha ha ha. I can’t deal with her.
Scott is loving True Detective. I’m mostly confused but it’s slowly coming together. I like the cast…

I found this yesterday about True Detective. The show is still confusing as hell but it helped: http://www.buzzfeed.com/kirstenking/im-so-confused#.crnEyv2r4k

Those book dedications are fantastic! I want to publish a crappy book just to have an awesome dedication like that!
Celebrity Twitter wars are trainwrecks I just cannot look away from. Definitely a fault of mine.
Julia @ Grace Makes New says
I am tripping all over my maxi skirt and getting it caught under the wheels of my desk chair today so I totally sympathize with you there! OMG the ridiculous celebrity drama and getting mad about a TSHIRT this week was absurd!

At least there was no more “love is dead” nonsense when Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert announced their divorce. I couldn’t deal with that shit again.
And short people problems are REAL!!!

Last Comic Standing was pretty dang funny. I laughed a lot.

I have yet to find a maxi skirt or dress that I liked on me, so you are trendier than I! All the LOL at the red fuck blue fuck!!! And you already know my feelings on the trophy shirt and other lame things people are getting their panties in a wad over. Hope you have a great weekend!!!!!

The ones I have are very plain: black, grey, black and white striped, and blue tie dye. Nothing outrageous. I’d look like a tablecloth if I wear most patterns. So that’s a hard pass for me. But it’s definitely a wardrobe upgrade!
Tonya@Budget and the Beach says
I’m loving SYTYCD being on again and I’m also watching Parenthood on Netflix. Don’t tell my friend Sarah that I just started watching. 🙂 I still get a little annoyed with it though. So I didn’t know iTunes would auto renew my one month free membership to HBO Now so I guess I’m stuck watching the rest of the crapfest that is TDS2. I mean I feel like I should just commit at this point. Boy, Taylor really peaked with FNL eh? At least I can keep watching that and pretend his acting is OK. I tune out the other ridiculous celeb crap. We celebrate Catilyn Jenner, but no one seems to care or remember that he was in a vehicle that killed a woman on PCH. No one hardly noticed that two young girls died in yet another theater shooting yesterday. Is that old hat now? Oh wait, Kim K just did something…let’s all pay attention to that. GRRR!

It is ridiculous what becomes a controversy lately. I heard about a high school football team that is changing its mascot to something other than “cougar”, because the term refers to women who like younger men. There are also people who want pet owners to start calling themselves “guardians” instead of “owners”.

Don’t judge me, but I’ve already started my Show Us Your Books post for next month.
One good thing about not living in the USA – being able to avoid some of the ridiculous “news” stories. I am ignorant to several of the controversies you listed, and I’m happy to stay that way.

It’s a shame what captivates the world!! We need a cultural shift that focuses on others stat!
Also, the #wishmyteacherknew is heartbreaking and inspiring combined. We just intentionally moved into a community where 97% of the population qualify for free or reduced lunch. This just provided all the feels about being able to volunteer at the neighborhood public school this year.

The #IWishMyTeacherKnew shines such light on a big problem with “education” in our country. It’s not just about the education but about the homes kids go home to. 🙁

I love maxi skirts … On other people. I really want to wear them myself because they look so cute and comfortable, but I’m only 5’1″ so the chances of finding one that actually fits properly are slim to none. Where did you find your skirts? I’m not sure how tall you are, but I’m open to store/brand suggestions for shorter maxi skirts (that just sounds like an oxymoron).
