Friday Six-Pack: Reset the counter

September 16, 2016 by Jana 17 Comments

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve done a weekly recap but I figured maybe I should start that again. Maybe I’ll even begin including pictures (insert collective gasp)!Friday Six Pack

Not too interesting of a week but there were some highlights:

  • I bought planner stickers. They were on sale and I get jealous of Kathy and Rebecca Jo‘s pretty planners so I figured for $3, what the hell. Now I own the stickers and I don’t know what to do with them. Suggestions?
  • Mr. Robot is the biggest mindfuck of a show in the history of ever and I watched LOST. Just when I think I get it, I don’t. But damn, Craig Robinson, are you good at being creepy and my 15 year old self loves seeing Christian Slater every week.
  • Last weekend, my town had a big craft beer festival to support our historic preservation society or something like that. So we went. I had fun, despite the 8 billion degree weather and despite eating tacos from a stand advertising “Taco’s” (At first, I did refuse to eat from there due to the poor grammar but you know…drunk) and despite eating tacos rather than Old Bay tater tots. I did successfully avoid using the portapotty and I made some new friends. Many wins for me!
  • I finished The Life Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck by Sarah Knight. You guys. READ THIS FUCKING BOOK. If you listen to The Armchair Librarians, you heard me discuss it and I’ll do so in-depth for the next Show Us Your Books but expect many references to this book around these parts in the near future.
  • Speaking of books, my next library haul is going to be nuts. So many books, so much diversity in topic, and one of them is Lady Cop Makes Trouble!!!!  IG post coming as the books roll in (not following me on IG? You should!) or after I hit the library at some point today, depending on how many are there.
  • The child is now the proud owner of an iPhone. I’m not prepared for this. Also, does anyone else not give a fuck about the iPhone7? I’m quite happy with the 6 and I am in no rush at all to buy the new one, especially before others buy it and I hear feedback. I might wind up getting one when the times comes for an upgrade on my line but I don’t care enough to make it a priority. Mostly because it’s a fucking phone.

A funny:

Enjoy your weekend! I’ll be celebrating my mother-in-law’s 60th and a childfree Friday night while she’s at some cheer team bonding sleepover thing. Hope you do something fun, too!

Friday Six Pack #5

May 27, 2016 by Jana 11 Comments

Another depression filled week in the books. Let’s see what happened:

    • Finished American Youth and The Girl from Home. Both were less than stellar but not awful. Currently reading The Never-Open Desert Diner. Picked up nothing new from the library and am ghosting NetGalley. #sorrynotsorry
    • Preparing my list for Erin and Dani’s reading challenge. It mostly consitutes NetGalley books since I have several of those and a long flight to and from Phoenix. Long flight=eBook reading because eBooks save space and weigh less. Not sure if those kinds of books count but #idowhatiwant
    • Continued to spend ridiculous money on refreshing my makeup (bought some blush, liquid eyeliner, and new nail polish) but at least I had coupons and sales and also bought some drugstore brands. I think NOW I’m done. Also spent money almost daily on iced coffee. I could save myself time and energy and gas if I just made a big ass pitcher at home so maybe #weekendgoals
    • Listening to Skillet’s newest:

  • No internet reads again this week. I just don’t have the energy and if I haven’t commented on your blogs or responded to your comments on mine please know that I want to but when I sit down to do it, I get overwhelmed and just say fuck it.
  • Funnies:IMG_2218 FullSizeRender (42) FullSizeRender (41)Season 2 of Bloodline releases today! If you need me for the next few days, you know where to find me.

Friday Six Pack #4

May 20, 2016 by Jana 16 Comments

I didn’t want you guys to think I fell of the planet so I’m just checking in with some quick highlights. Although I’ll tell you that depression is kicking my ass lately and it’s hard to feel anything about anything but I’ll try.

Friday Six Pack

    • Finished Sue Klebold’s book and am in the middle of The Girl From Home. As far as the former, it is the most emotionally draining book I have ever read and the amount of thoughts, feelings, and opinions I have about it can probably fill its own book. Picked up 4 books including The Never-Open Desert Diner. It seemed to have a Welcome to Night Vale feel to it so we’ll see how it goes.
    • Have not turned on the TV except to watch our Sunday HBO shows. Not a Netflix binge. Not an Amazon binge. Nothing. Although I did watch the Prison Break trailer and learned that it’s airing in 2017 rather than this year which is all kinds of ruining my day. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, FOX.
    • I know stats mean very little but Steph and I had our highest number of downloads in one day for The Armchair Librarians this week! Thank you to everyone who listens, subscribes, and shares. It’s not the most professional sounding podcast around but we’re having so much fun doing it. You can visit our website or find us on iTunes. Also, our next recording involves you! We want you to ask us your bookish questions and the whole episode will be our answers. Send us tweets, emails, comments on this post…anyway you want to get in touch with us, go for it!
    • You know what makes you feel like you live in a pigsty? Having a mouse living in your pantry and not being able to trap said mouse. The cat can’t even catch the fucker. I think we’ve solved the problem and while my husband advocates a kill trap in the even the problem is not solved, I just can’t do it. Any suggestions?
    • Obsessively listening to this song by The Struts:

  • No internet links this week because I haven’t felt like reading the internet (see also: my absence in commenting. Sorry, friends) but here are some funnies:

Hope you all have a good weekend! Ours will be filled with DIY brake repairs, cheerleading tryouts, and making sure Barkley stays on his meds and obeys all doctor’s orders. See you on Tuesday, hopefully, with another round of Judging Covers.

Friday six-pack #3

May 13, 2016 by Jana 15 Comments

I feel like this week was a big fucking waste of time filled with nothing but rain and other assorted bullshit. I generally don’t try to live for the weekends but this week has made me nothing but glad to see it arrive. We have no plans which is wonderful coming off of our trip to VA Beach last weekend (and my daughter’s squad took 5th of 14. It might not seem that great but it was a huge accomplishment).

Friday Six Pack

    • Reading business: Currently reading Holding Smoke and The Bed Moved. DNF’d Deep South. Picked up 3 new books from the library including Sue Klebold’s book which I cannot wait to read. Thanks to everyone who participated in Show Us Your Books (next one is June 14th) and continues to listen to The Armchair Librarians. We celebrated the release of our 10th episode in typical Steph and Jana style. As in, we forgot.
    • My first baby, my dog Barkley, turned 12 this week. TWELVE. He’s definitely slowing down but he’s still his stubborn, grumpy yet completely lovable, football obsessed self. We bought him some new toys, he got ice cream and chicken for dinner, and even some Starbucks. IMG_2173
    • After seeing Pearl Jam a few weeks ago and having two more concerts coming up, I cannot stop searching for more to attend. My wallet strongly disagrees with my choices as does the fact that we need a new bed more than we need to go to more concerts but still. I want to see ALL THE SHOWS. See also: travel and ridiculous wanderlust.
    • I generally do not suffer from FOMO for a laundry list of reasons but I am feeling it hard for Book Expo America this week, especially when I see all the social media posts about it. DAMN YOU, INSTAGRAM. Since this feeling sucks, who wants to go with me next year? I think it’s in NYC.
    • Currently obsessed with Volbeat’s new song, “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown”. Have a listen if you like hard rock:

Friday Six Pack #2

May 6, 2016 by Jana 17 Comments

Short but sweet recap this week.Friday Six Pack

  • Finished 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl. Currently reading How to Start a Fire. Picked up The Bed Moved. Still in a NetGalley hole. Don’t forget Show Us Your Books on Tuesday and a new episode of The Armchair Librarians goes live every Thursday.
  • Bought some new mascara and makeup brushes. The great makeup refresh of 2016 is in full swing.
  • The husband and I went to a wine tasting last weekend. Ordinarily I don’t enjoy wine but this was at a local place, it’s been on our Delaware to-do list for awhile, and we came home with 2 bottles. One of them is named Redneck Rouge. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t buy it partly for the name.
  • Many things enraged me this week (Trump, the asshole woman yelling at the guy in Walmart for buying groceries with food stamps, the bathroom bill debacle) but in the interest of keeping my head from exploding, let’s focus on something happy: this cop who rescued a kitten.
  • This summer we plan to update our kitchen. For years, all I’ve wanted is a 1950s style kitchen. For years, I’ve struggled with finding items to make that happened. Then I found this website, Retro Planet, and now my kitchen will look just how I want it. #takemymoney #finally
  • Mother’s Day themed funnies:

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Happy Mother’s Day whether you have two or four legged kids, whether they live here or in heaven, or if you’re celebrating someone who’s not your biological mother but might as well be or however else you acknowledge the day. As for me, I’ll be in Virginia Beach for my daughter’s cheer competition. You can follow along on Instagram if you’d like.

See you on Tuesday for the best monthly linkup ever!
