It’s been awhile since I’ve had a brain dump like this and I figured with all the serious posts this week, it might be a good idea to lighten the mood around here. Let’s do that with examining what’s been going on inside my head lately.
- Why do crime/thriller shows always portray the murderers and criminal masterminds as (usually) good looking, intelligent, cultured, wealthy people? I mean, I get that they can be psychopaths, too, but these shows are seriously increasing my paranoia quotient regarding the upper class.
- Speaking of my paranoia, a new cat has decided our backyard is its kingdom, terrifying our existing cat. They sort of got into it on Sunday and now I’m petrified my cat will get into a violent bloody fight with squatter cat and my cat will bleed to death (never mind the fact that my cat is inside 80% of the time).
- Having a cold is pretty much the worst thing ever. It makes you feel like shit but there’s absolutely nothing you can take to make yourself feel better, unless it’s NyQuil and I really don’t have time to spend in a NyQuil coma. Also, the sneezing part just sucks.
- I was a mystery reader in my daughter’s class this week. I read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day because I think even kids should read the book before they see the movie.
- Is anyone else doing NaNoWriMo next month? I am because clearly I have issues and like to pressure myself for no apparent reason other than maybe I think it’s fun.
- Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday. I have not bought him a gift, a card, or even thought about getting or baking a cake or any sort of dessert because he is the worst person to shop for and he drops no subtle hints or clues and if he does, I’m clearly too dumb to pick up on them. We are going out to dinner and he is guest posting tomorrow so at this point, that’ll have to do.
- Did you guys see the news that Rainbow Brite is getting the reboot treatment a la My Little Pony and The Care Bears? Did you see that Molly Ringwald is going to be one of the voices? The child that grew up in the 80s is rejoicing but my adult self knows it’ll probably be shit and ruin yet another sacred childhood memory.
- My 20th high school reunion is in May. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to go. High school was a fucking nightmare and I can’t justify paying to spend money to see people who won’t remember me anyway. But I am curious.
- I’ve been trying to participate in a 21 day intentional blogging challenge, hosted by Jeff Goins. It’s not going well. I think I’m 4 days behind and I can’t find the most current task, let alone the ones I’m missing. I think maybe this was a terrible mistake.
- I finally jumped on the blog button bandwagon and designed one. I need to put it on my sidebar so anyone who likes me can grab it and put on their site (hint, hint). I’m pretty sure that’ll take me about 4 more months to do. #lazyass But here it is in case you want it now:
So now that you’ve had a peek inside my head, tell me. What’s going on in your life lately? Are you as scatterbrained as I am? Would you go to your high school reunion?

Entertaining read! There are SO many crime shows on TV, it’s almost obscene. Ted Bundy was a real- life charmer #ugh
I think your plans for your husband’s birthday are just fine. Can’t wait to read his blog! No surprise on bringing back Rainbow Brite. Strawberry Shortcake was one of my Stephanie’s favorites and those Care Bears are adorable.
Healing lights to you to be rid of your cold.
Have a happy day!

I both love and hate the 80s resurgence. It’d be better if they didn’t give them complete makeovers.

Looking good with the button, is the signature new to match?
Scott is guest posting? Awesome! Oh I found a nice TBT photo from 1996 or 1997. I need to locate it on my phone.
Do you watch Criminal Minds? They have some gross mofos as unsubs but they’ve been showing good looking criminals lately too.

I did the signature a few weeks ago but I’m trying to coordinate everything. For consistency.
Scott IS guest posting! I totally need to see that picture. We always laugh when we look at college pictures. They’re so hilarious and awesome.
I don’t watch it but Law and Order kind of does the same thing.

Fo realz though… American Psycho.. look it up if you haven’t seen it. If you have, punch me in the throat… but he’s a good looking mass murderer. AND HE’S BATMAN NOW! HAAAAAAAAAAAA!

We love Alexander in this house!
As mentioned I’m really only going to my reunion to show them how awesome I am now, I know they all thought I was an bitch and loser in high school but they are the one’s still living next door to mom and I am the one living at the beach. 🙂

I joined the FB group for the reunion and it makes me sad how the same they are all. I’m pretty sure I won’t miss out on anything if I choose not to go.

They’re re-doing Rainbow Brite?? I’m not really sure how to feel about this…Although Molly Ringwald doing the voice is kind of awesome and fitting, as a fellow 80’s star.
I should probably design a blog button but I have no idea how, so there’s that. 😉

They are!! Molly Ringwald is the voice is The Dark Princess. I’m skeptical but I’ll watch it anyway.
I designed mine using PicMonkey. My design skills aren’t spectacular but this’ll do for now.

My husband is impossible to buy for too. I always dread this time of year because his birthday and Christmas are within 6 weeks of each other — now how can I be expected to come up with 2 good gift ideas for him in that short amount of time???

It’s ridiculous!
My husband has our anniversary, Mother’s Day, and my birthday all within a 6 week span and I am ALWAYS courteous enough to provide him with a list 🙂

It does strike me as odd that all the good looking, rich people are the psychotic killers. I think part of it is a scam by media to keep hating on the 1% and act like they are the problem. Crime has no address, and there are bad people in all classes…but still interesting.
My husband isn’t terribly hard to buy for as there is always something he wants. Usually it costs a billion dollars. Naturally.
Look at you and your fancy smancy button! I will grab it and put it on my side bar 🙂

That’s the problem. What he wants I can’t afford. He needs to be cheaper. So high maintenance.
I never thought of it from that perspective before. But it’s an interesting theory.

Yes, the paranoia when it is a creeper you could bump into anywhere. Not ok. Rainbow brite?! What?! i didn’t go to my 10 year reunion but I might go to my 20th. Hmm. Love the new button.

I definitely didn’t go to my 10 year. Same reasons.
Maybe that’s what it is! Knowing that they could be anywhere. And the prettier people get noticed more, I think.
Revanche says
I am totally against Matt Bomer playing a murderer type criminal. Forever he will be White Collar criminal.
It seems like the selection of the good lookin’ and wealthy might actually be an attempt to make it creepier. There’s a lot about the unconscious bias to tend to like, and not want to suspect, people we consider good looking. So when they are the transgressors, it’s “unexpected”, people are usually more likely willing to assume it’s the scruffy looking suspect. That’s my theory anyway!
We just do dinner out now for birthdays, too, and skip gifts and cards. Though I did come up with a random gift for PiC’s birthday, that’s a total anomaly and it’s not something he asked for or needs, I just think he’ll like it.
High school reunion: Nope. I already keep in touch with the few people I’d like to, there are a few others I’d like to find but it’s not likely going to be at the reunion. Plus they charged more than $100 for basically a rubber chicken dinner for the ten year reunion, a good party they do not know how to throw!

His character on White Collar was one that came to mind (with the exception of the murder stuff) when I wrote that. I like your theory!
He’s so hard to shop for I’d just rather not.
Kristen says
maybe its because most actos are good looking? lol.
but yeah it just makes me scared and paranoid of everyone now lol.
i feel you on the present buying… every christmas and birthday my husband gets polos for work, socks and underwear.. and a gift card to buy a computer game.

I did the National Blogging Month in Nov. once but it was pretty tough and “intense” blogging/writing like that can really stump one’s creativity, I think. I didn’t go to a formal reunion but a friend organized one and I got all the scoop since she still lives in the area and sees a lot of high school people. I’m scattered brain these days. Working on costumes, and lesson planning for my son since the au pair needs stuff to do with him, baking since we’ve got 30 lbs of apples to use. Takes my all of my evenings. No time to blog.

Our conversation *might* have prompted me to finally do it 🙂
Nothing too special. We’re going out to dinner and then family stuff (read: cheerleading) the rest of the weekend.

I take it your hubby likes guest posting since that is his bday gift?! LOL. My bf is extremely hard to buy for and the first 2 Christmases together his mom called asking me what to get him and I had NO clue. I began keeping a list of any and everything he ever mentions he likes as he mentions it – no matter what time of year it is. Even if it is right after Christmas. Then I go back to this trusty list for his bday and Christmas and can even help his mom out.

My husband just likes talking about himself 🙂
He is so difficult to shop for. Christmas is a nightmare and I always feel like I get it wrong, even if I ask him what he wants. I’d love to keep a list but it’s full of stuff I can’t afford. Like a trip to Augusta National or Pebble Beach. One day, I keep telling myself (and him). One day.
