Christmas is very soon. Hanukkah is even closer. And you know what’s before all of that? My daughter’s birthday. I’m a 100% unprepared for all of it. It’s making me anxious and sad and annoyed and nervous and I really need to get my shit together if I’m going to pull off anything decent in the next two weeks.
Here’s what else is going on:
-
- I am an emotional wreck over the series finale of Sons of Anarchy. The beautiful disaster that was Jax Teller and SAMCRO is no longer. I’m struggling with the fact that it’s gone and if you watched the finale, please let me know if you’re still reeling from it, too. We can start a support group.
- While we’re talking about shows ending, I’m pretty sure the networks are conspiring against me because almost every show I like to watch is ending this year. But I did just read that Jesse Plemons (Landry from Friday Night Lights and Todd from Breaking Bad) is going to be on Fargo so maybe I’ll try that one to fill the void.
- On the plus side, with all the shows I like to watch not airing anymore, I’ll have a ton more free time to read the 80 billion books I have on reserve from the library that have all come in at once. I have literally thousands of pages to read. I can fortify an entire city with the amount of books stacked on my nightstand.
- That fact makes me think I need an e-reader. I have the Kindle app on my iPad but I can’t access the Kindle store on Amazon, rendering that part of my Amazon Prime subscription useless. I don’t like wasting money, and I really don’t like not being able to access something that would give me books. But I have no idea which version of the Kindle to buy. TOO MANY CHOICES.
- You know what goes well with books? Coffee. I don’t really drink coffee but I do drink tea. Lots of tea. One of my favorites is chai tea. And I’ve figured out that if you put french vanilla coffee creamer in chai tea, it’s extra delicious. I found a homemade version on Pinterest. It’s 3 ingredients: 1 can sweetened evaporated milk, 1 1/2 cups milk, and 2 tsp vanilla. Use fat free milk (both kinds) for a lower fat version. You can read the full instructions here.
- Remember how I said that John Krasinski would make the perfect Lincoln if Rainbow Rowell’s book Attachments was made into a movie? I changed my mind. Jason Segel would be better. Or Ryan Hurst (I told you I wasn’t over Sons of Anarchy). I recognize that they’re older than Lincoln is supposed to be but they can pass for younger.
- I need a new tagline for my blog. Please leave any suggestions in the comments. There’s no prize for winning except my everlasting gratitude.
- Speaking of prizes, congrats to my friend Revanche from A Gai Shan Life for winning the Amazon gift card giveaway!!! Also, she has some of the best tweets ever so make sure you go and follow her (that’s not part of the prize package; that’s just a personal endorsement because she cracks me up daily).
- Have you been following along with me and Nadine on Instagram and our #inthedrawer challenge? If you haven’t, here’s some of what you’re missing:
-
- I’m currently obsessed with this song and video. It is everything.
Thanks for listening. Come back tomorrow. My daughter is guest posting. You won’t want to miss it.
Oh! And if you didn’t already see it, I’m guest posting over at Life According to Steph so you should go read that, too, because two posts from me in one day is definitely better than one!

I have a Kindle Fire and I like it! I’m not even sure what all of the different choices are for them though, I haven’t tried any other Kindle.
That chai tea sounds amazing! I prefer coffee to tea, but I LOVE chai!

I’m leaning towards the Kindle Fire but if I just want it for reading, I’m struggling with spending the money. Sigh.
Sarah @ Beauty School Dropout says
Mmm… I love chai. I also like coffee, though, and it’s everywhere (and cheaper) so I usually just go the easy route and drink that.
I can’t quite get into the e-reader thing, so I have no advice for you. If it were me, I’d want the one that’s supposed to look like paper and not give you eye strain, because I’m already on the computer so much.

I’m starting to not hate coffee has much as I used to but I definitely prefer tea.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’m considering that feature because eye strain pain is real and I’m so lazy about wearing my glasses.
Lynsey @ Eternally Wanderlyn says
I don’t like coffee, so yes to the chai tea! It’s one of my all time favorites. I’ve seen that recipe too, but I haven’t tried it yet. 🙂
I also have a Kindle Fire and I love it. But, they have a Kindle app for your phone and laptop that should let you access books.

I have the app and it’s perfect for library books but you cannot borrow books from the Kindle store or use the “share books” feature. You can only do that with the actual Kindle, which is why I think I need to get one. It’s very frustrating because the app should be able to do it all, too. I should not need two devices.
Definitely try the recipe! It’s so easy and delicious.
Lynsey @ Eternally Wanderlyn says
I thought I could when I used the app. I may be mistaken. But, you should be able to use your laptop to borrow the book from the Kindle store and have it sent to your device. Have you tried doing it that way?

I think there’s either something wrong with your app or it might be an iPad/Apple thing.
I use the Kindle app on my Note tablet daily and I can loan books, borrow books, use Kindle Unlimited, buy books. I can do everything on my tablet that I can on a regular Kindle, plus I can read magazines and books with photography, which you can’t do on a non-Fire Kindle.
I don’t have any Apple devices, so I can’t speak to that, but you might try making sure you ahve the latest and greatest version of the app. There’s no reason you shouldn’t have full functionality with it.

It might be an Apple thing. I have the most updated app and I can’t do it. When I looked it up, Amazon did say there are certain things you can only do with a Kindle. But maybe that extends to non-Apple tablets, too.
Tonya@Budget and the Beach says
I think maybe I should add SOA to my watch list. I read that too about Jesse Plemons! You know that Tyra is one one of my favorite shows right now AGENTS of Shield? She’s good in it!

Jana says
YES! Add it to your watch list. You’ll love me for making you do it.
I didn’t know that about Tyra and quite honestly, I forgot that show even existed :/

So, since I’m a little new to this blog – how old is your daughter? does she post often?
My son is 7 – – – and I’m sure if I let him post, it be about trains, and trains – – did I mention trains?
I am two seasons behind with SOA, and I really need to catch up. I can never stay up – – -and then, the On Demand never works, and I am making excuses **SIGHS** – – – I’ll get right on that.
Also: I have an on again off again love affair with coffee…. Sometimes I’m just ALL UP in there, other times I’m like – MEH.

She’ll be 8 on Saturday and it’ll be her second time posting. I let her fill in on the Friday favorites posts. It’s fun for her, she feels all important, and I get a break. Everyone wins!
It’s on Netflix and Amazon Prime (I think). Netflix will probably take forever to stream season 7 but yes, you do need to catch up. It’s crucial.
kristen says
I don’t watch SOA but I have been curious and might start now that it’s finished (i’m impatient and don’t like waiting lol).
i have the most basic kindle, my husband has an ever basic-er (older) kindle and i bought my mother in law the new basic-est (which is fancier than mine) for her birthday next month (it was on sale for $50). but seriously, you don’t need a fancy tablet. or maybe thats just me. i love how simple it is. LOVE my kindle.

Please watch it. Please.
I don’t think I need anything fancy. I just want to access the lending library.
Kerry says
I was reeling from the finale. Did you watch the afterword show? Amazing. You should be able to get the books to your ipad, I do. If you go to Amazon then send it to your Kindle it should be there the next time you open your kindle app.

If I buy a book or download from the library, I can get it. I just can’t access the Kindle store and take advantage of those perks.
The Afterword. Sobs.
Nadine says
Girl, yes!!! Always Jason Segel!!!!
I am going to have to try this homemade vanilla creamer. Have you done it yet? I am assuming it keeps in the fridge for awhile? (Or as long as the milk is good.) Can’t wait to hear from your daughter tomorrow!!!

It keeps in the fridge for a week. It won’t last that long 🙂
Jason Segel makes me swoon.

You should definitely download Netgalley. You can access the books on there from your Kindle app once you’ve sent them to the cloud. I love my Kindle Paperwhite though- would recommend that one!

December birthdays are so tough! I’m sure you’ll make it awesome. I have a Kindle Fire from about two years ago, so I’m sure they are better now, but I still love it. I basically only use it for reading and Netflix. Amazon Prime is the best thing in the history of the world. Haha! I’m so obsessed with the new Walk The Moon album. It’s just good, fun music.

I had an e-reader, but it broke. So I need a new one.

Whoa wait STOP THE PRESSES!! Why haven’t I ever thought to put french vanilla creamer in chai tea?!?! YUM! I honestly recommend the regular, most basic kindle. I have the original Kindle and seriously love it. I had a kindle fire and that kind of drove me crazy. Oh, and my husband’s birthday is before xmas and I’m stressing a little haha! I’m with you! Totally unprepared! Thanks for linking up lovely!
Jana says
You need to try it! Revolutionary!!!
Thanks for the Kindle input!

I agree on both potential castings for Lincoln. Are they making a movie?!
I’m more or less prepared for the holidays (you know, when I eventually make it to the post office) but that’s because we’re not doing a whole lot this year.
Jana says
I don’t think so but it’s fun to pretend!
