(If you sing the title like the Bon Jovi song, it's way better)
I've told you guys before that I am not above stealing borrowing a good idea. And after I saw these types of posts from Kenzie and Liz, I figured, hey? Why not do one of these for myself? Admittedly, I am not as interesting as those ladies, and pretty much every day looks the same for me (weekends, too, which is why I never do weekend recaps. I could write one and then just recycle it every Monday. Easy writing for me. Boring reading for you) but I thought it might be fun to answer the question “what exactly it is you do here?”
It's pretty simple.
First, my alarm goes off at 6:15. I check the phone repeatedly to make sure it's not a mistake and then lay in bed while my husband storms the bathroom first. I figure since he leaves the house to go to work, I can graciously give him a 5 minute head start on the day. He finishes whatever it is he does in there, I move a dog out of the way, and get up.
Then I get dressed, hopefully remember to put on deodorant, walk down to the living room and do this:
I want to hate Shawn T. Yet, I don't. So starting my day with him isn't so bad and I know my workout is done for the day and that's nice. Then, while still dripping with sweat, I go to my kitchen, grab a quick breakfast and pack my child's lunch. Then, I brave her room, stepping over mountains of whatever she had been playing with the night before because cleaning up requests are laughed at and ignored, and wake her up. She usually looks pretty comfortable but I don't want to go to jail for not sending her to school so I rouse her anyway.
We get home, she has a snack and watches some TV, I somehow manage to get things done but I can't tell you what because the hour between when we get home and I start making dinner is a time warp and the hour disappears. Since this is the third time I've mentioned eating, here's my kitchen. The amount of time I spend in here really is ridiculous.
We don't really have a set time for dinner because 3 nights a week (and one weekend morning/afternoon), we go here for cheer practice. The gym is up a very long, poorly paved driveway and through a gravelly, dusty parking lot. But isn't the entrance pretty?
After cheer, I wage another battle to get her in bed by a reasonable bedtime since waking her in the morning takes more patience than I have, especially if she's tired, but she takes 87 minute showers. It's a fine line between wanting her to enjoy showering and telling her to hurry the fuck up. After she's sufficiently clean and her bathroom is sufficiently flooded, we have storytime and finally, she's in bed.
Once she's asleep, I get to enjoy adult TV time. That is either exceptionally pleasant or exceptionally unpleasant, depending on the day of the week as my husband and I don't always agree on what constitutes good TV. We do agree occasionally and that's nice. Depending on the day, we shut the TV off at either 10 or 11, walk the dogs a final time, and go to bed. I typically read for about 20 minutes before I can fall asleep (sometimes longer if it's a good book). When I'm done reading, I shuffle the dogs around so I can get comfortable enough to sleep. Then I do.
Quick note: in my house, it's a race to fall asleep first because my husband snores and if I have to listen to it while I am trying to sleep, I get ragey and want to smother him. Smothering is illegal so I settle for a subtle jab in the arm and an angry “stop snoring!” It usually works and we all sleep well after that.
And that, my friends, is my exciting life. I suppose it could be worse.
What does your average day look like? Would you like to join me in a share your space linkup where we take pictures of our desks and talk about what's on it and why?

To me, your day is lovely. After working outside the home over 40 hrs a week for 35 years and running like a nut, taking care of home, hearth, and family is a dream come true for me! Grandchildren a day or 2 a week has ended for now and we have college soccer. Life is but a dream for me. Eternally grateful!
Love, SMD’s Momma

I actually enjoy my schedule, especially now that I am not slave to a commute or office job. Maybe one day I’ll go back to that but for now, this’ll work! Glad you’re also enjoying yourself, too!

My desk is boring but sure, why not.
I love seeing dailies of people’s lives!

I think it could be fun to see what’s on people’s desks and it has nothing to do with the fact that I am nosy.

The desk link-up sounds fun! Thanks for sharing your day! That parent pick-up line looks awful! :0

I think it could be fun. I love that stuff.
The pick-up line is my daily nightmare. I’ve started bringing a book to pass the time.

Little K wanted to do the clean up your room fight the other night, it was so bad you couldn’t even walk in. When I told her to clean it she said NO, so I took ALL her fun crap away until it was clean 24 hours later.
I often emphatically encourage my daughter too, she such a stubborn little girl!
I do not look forward to the car line at school but I also don’t see throwing my kindergartener on the bus with 5th graders next year.

I don’t like that age gap on the bus either. It makes me nervous.
I have taken Erica’s things away. She’s stubborn. I am worse.

I love the “day in a life” type of posts. I am so impressed that you get up early to do T25. I don’t even do that work out and I hate him for you! 😛 And your little copilots are adorable. 🙂
Jana says
Thanks!
I actually prefer to get up early. I like knowing it’s done and I feel less guilty doing nothing the rest of the day. He’s really not bad. Reminds me of Will Smith a bit. And the workout is enjoyable.

haha your life is way more exciting than mine. although i feel you on the snoring, but what i do annoys my husband more, so we have trouble going to sleep sometimes. i toss and turn a lot, he snores. I can sleep through snoring, or at least fall asleep, if its not too loud, but my tossing and turning keeps him up but the more i try NOT to move, the more moving I need to do. life is hard.

My husband insists I am a blanket stealer but I insist he is a liar.
I can’t imagine not being able to be still when I sleep. I’m sorry that you go through that.
Kerry says
I totally understand the snoring. My Mom is that way and I went on vacation with her and I made her wait 20 minutes before going to bed to make sure I fell asleep first. Those school lines are crazy!

Trying to share a room with someone who snores is the worst! It is so distracting. I like your solution!

When I worked from home, I was in danger of becoming nocturnal. Way to keep normal hours! (I’m a little jealous of your dogs on the bed. Significant decided he’d sleep better if our dog wasn’t on the bed with us and now I feel so bad every night, when he’s staring up with his big brown eyes. He is a bit big though – 60 pounds of dog takes up a surprising amount of space)

I was nocturnal for a bit but it was terrible, especially during summer or school breaks. Keeping a normal schedule is better for my family all around.
There’s no way my dogs wouldn’t sleep in the bed. I’d rather buy a bigger mattress!

oh, thank god you said that about your daughter because i thought it was just us who fought in the morning. how can getting up and getting dressed be such a big ordeal? i always shout: IF YOU HAD TO WORK AND WERE LIKE THIS, YOU’D GET FIRED! or something more kid-appropriate LOL

It is a small miracle if I go one morning without yelling or fighting. I don’t understand how it take 45 minutes to brush her teeth and put on clothes. Drives me insane.

I do appreciate that I am not the only one that has to battle small animals to get something resembling comfortable sleep. It’s always fun when the cats decide to battle for the place on my hip, especially when the 18lb Maine Coon wins the battle.
My schedule changes every day because of my teaching schedule. In previous years, I have had a Tuesday/Thursday or M/W/F schedule. This semester I am in 4 days a week, sometimes mornings and sometimes afternoons. Tuesdays are the day from hell when my first class is at 8am and my last class is at 7:30pm. Tomorrow is the first day I am doing that so it should be fun. Everyday I thank my Google calendar for telling me where to go and when or else I would completely lose it.

Hmmm it would help if I had a desk at home! I blog from the kitchen table most days! I can link up with my dream office 😉 haha!

I love adult TV time.
And you have a clean kitchen! Mine is..scary right now.
I need to do this sometime!

I spend a pretty large portion of my life in the kitchen too. PS, I now have Bon Jovi singing in my head – except it’s only the verse “It’s my life” and “it’s now or never” -haha! As long as I don’t wake up to pee at 3AM and it blares in my head then it’s ok.
The snoring situation is a tough one. Even if my bf falls asleep before me he still sounds like he’s running a chain saw in the room and it wakes me up. He now sleeps in another room.

I keep telling myself that I’m going to do one of these posts but I never do. Lol. Once in a while I think that maybe I should just homeschool my kids instead…but all it takes is a weekend for me to remember how much I love my sanity. Hahaha. And holy hell that is one long pickup line!!
