Given the serious nature of the this week’s posts, as well as some of the ones I have planned for the upcoming weeks, and the fact that I had a pretty prolonged absence, I thought I’d share with you guys what’s currently going on in my life.
Currently…I’ve been feeling old. Not only have I been getting notifications for my twenty year high school reunion but John Smoltz, Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez–players who I watched when I was in my teens and twenties–were elected to the baseball Hall of Fame, Green Day is going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and I have shirts older than college freshmen. I also find it mildly alarming that when I hear someone is 50, that is less shocking than finding out someone is 25 even though my age, 37, is in the middle. Pardon me while I weep for a minute.
Currently…I’ve been binge watching The Shield and Rescue Me. Like I wondered with The Wire, I genuinely don’t know what I was thinking when I didn’t watch these during their live runs. I might be getting less done during the day and at night, but it’s worth it. If you don’t have the time for two, start with Rescue Me. It’s freaking fantastic and Sean Garrity, played by Steven Pasquale (who can also sing his ass off and the next time he is on Broadway, I WILL be going to see him. And for those who watch current TV, which I clearly do not, he’s on this season of The Good Wife) is in my top 5 TV characters of all time. The show is worth watching simply for him and his banter with Mike the probie is reminiscent of Matt and Landry from FNL and that’s some of the best ever. We just finished Season 4 and it was kind of a mess but I’m not giving up on it. Mainly because of Garrity. I’m not ready to let him leave my life yet.
Currently…I love this hand lotion. I wish Bath and Body Works made all the things in this scent. I would buy all of it. In vats and gallons. Even the body wash. And I don’t use scented body wash.
Currently…I am in the middle of Cary Elwes’s book As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. I’ll have a detailed review in next week’s Show Us Your Books linkup (on Tuesday, January 13). All I can say now is this is closing in on joining the ranks with Rick Springfield’s and Nikki Sixx’s memoirs as my favorite celebrity memoirs. I’m also reading The Journalist and The Murderer, which is supposed to be a book that Serial fans would enjoy. And you guys know I love me some Serial. I don’t quite know how I feel about the book yet.
Currently…I cannot believe that Dobie is 9 today. My daughter calls him a goat because he eats EVERYTHING (and that once resulted in a very expensive, late night trip to the emergency room) but he is the sweetest, most lovable dog ever. He loves to play fetch and run in the snow and ride in the car and give kisses and has no future as a guard dog but that’s okay. I could not be happier that he’s part of our family.
Currently…I’m trying to warm up because holy fuck is it cold and I don’t like the cold. I haven’t felt my toes in about 2 days despite wearing socks and slippers. Even my outdoor cat is refusing to stay outside. This coldness is bullshit.
Currently…I’m happy to be writing again. It feels good.
I think that about covers it. Have a great weekend! See you on Monday!

I am loving my age 58.5 and looking forward to 62 so I can collect SS. Although that could change if the right job situation comes along. I care about how I look but nothing like I used to 10 years ago. I abhor the cold – every year more so. No reason for temps to go below 30 and the wind chill factors! I love any cream that has the word “lift” or “firming”. Even if it’s a hoax, I love it. Have a wonderful weekend! Love, SMD’s Momma.

No. No good reason for this weather. We’re not in Alaska.

I will have to look in to Rescue Me and The Shield. I love the Good Wife!!!
I feel old too!!!! People are like OMG it’s been 5 to 10 years since high school and I am all OMG its been way longer than that for me! And what the what?!?! Green Day is already entering the hall of fame?! Are you kidding me????
My little Gracie is going to be 10 soon. 🙁 I can’t even think about it right now. Her and Mac are both part goat.
Hope you have a great weekend!!!

I’ve never watched The Good Wife. Maybe I should?
When people talk about being old and graduating 5 years ago, I’m like “oh, that’s so cute”.
Barkley will be 11 in May. My 2 old men. Sigh.

So happy to hear that you’re happy back at writing! Ok, so that IS your dog. I guess I never asked on IG, where I first saw him. I have two bichons and one is currently have digestive issues and poo-ing everywhere in the house. And even though their breath stinks, they’re cute. I should take more photos of them.

princess bride is, hands down, one of the best movies ever made. and the shield…i 10000% approve. that’s one of my favorite shows. you know how some seasons of a show are lame and boring? the shield was the only show that was non-stop, omfg, white-knuckling, sitting on the edge of my seat, full-on anxiety during every single episode.

YES!!! I find myself forgetting to breathe sometimes. And I’m not sure I will ever get over Shane killing Lem.

I’m happy you’re writing again too!
Curious about this Murder book.
I like Steven Pasquale on The Good Wife a lot. I didn’t get to Rescue Me the first time around but my one friend adored it. I’ll add it to my queue!

I’m going to start with this season which probably makes no sense but I figure I’ll start with watching someone I like. If I enjoy this season, or what I can find on demand, I’ll probably start from the beginning.
The Journalist and the Murderer is good but very slow, tedious reading. Thankfully it’s a short book!

I am absolutely trying to ignore the old feeling I’m getting this year, I just keep thinking about how much smarter I am now. I prefer wiser me over younger me.
Why does it have to be so cold? If snowed here the other night, that should never ever happen at the beach.
Jana says
The cold is nonsense. Pure nonsense.
I like wiser me, too. She makes better choices.

I’ll need to check out that lotion- it sounds like I’ll love it. I have never watched The Wire and am told it is a must. Once I do that Ill check out your other TV shows too!

Happy Friday! I am 35 (almost 36 — eek) and I definitely feel old sometimes. But then I realize how clueless I feel in life most of the time and I feel young again. =)

I really don’t know how I’m 37 (38 in June) because on a good day, I feel like I’m 18. Maybe 19.
Mackenzie says
Totally understand about the whole age thing. I really, really do. 37 is an odd age for sure… I swear I was just in high school and listening to The Cranberries and watching My So Called Life, lol 🙂

I need to try that lotion solely for the fact that it references wine. LOL

Seriously loved Rescue Me, so sad when it ended. I tend to feel old regularly and if I don’t my knees remind me. 😉
